Methods for Improving Voltage Withstand of Common Mode Choke in Winding and Material Selection

1、 Replacing the common mode inductance winding method

There are usually two winding methods for magnetic ring common mode inductors, the first is double wire parallel winding, and the second is double wire split winding.
A. The dual wire parallel winding method requires the use of insulated wire and enameled wire for joint winding. After successful winding of the magnetic ring common mode inductance, the appearance is somewhat similar to that of the magnetic ring differential mode inductance.
The common mode inductor wound in parallel with two wires is suitable for low voltage and high current circuits, and using the method of winding the common mode inductor in parallel with two wires cannot effectively improve the withstand voltage performance of the inductor.
B. The double wire winding method requires the use of two sets of enameled wires, or a set of enameled wires and a set of three-layer insulation wires. The two windings are wound separately, and each set of wires is wound along one side of the magnetic core. The use of dual wire winding method to wind the magnetic ring common mode inductor can greatly improve the voltage withstand performance of the common mode inductor.

2、 Replace the common mode inductance wire

The use of different wires in the magnetic ring common mode inductor will have different effects on the withstand voltage of the magnetic ring common mode inductor. When two sets of enameled wires are used for the magnetic ring common mode inductor, the thicker the wire diameter, the better the voltage withstand effect. The withstand voltage effect of using a set of enameled wires and a set of three-layer insulated wires for magnetic ring common mode inductors is better than that of two sets of enameled wires with the same wire winding method and wire diameter size.

3、 Common mode inductance with increased partition

The method of adding a common mode inductor with a separator is only applicable to dual wire winding. The common mode inductance can achieve better voltage resistance by adding a partition in the middle of the magnetic ring. In general, the common mode inductance with added partitions has twice the voltage withstand performance compared to the inductance without added partitions.
